What is an overbite?

An overbite is when your upper front teeth overlap with your lower front teeth. Most people have at least a little overbite.

What kinds of problems can an overbite cause?

When your overbite is too large, your doctor might tell you you have a “deep bite.” This can cause problems, from your teeth wearing down to pain in your jaw.1,2 Doctors use a percentage to describe overbites, and 5 to 25 percent is ideal.3

What is an underbite?

An underbite is when you close your mouth and your lower front teeth are in front of your upper teeth. In many cases, this is actually a problem with your lower jaw being too far forward.

What is a crossbite?

When you close your mouth and some of your upper teeth are sitting inside your lower teeth — rather than on the outside, like they normally would — your doctor calls this a crossbite.

SmartStage® and SmartForce® technologies ensure there will only be gradual and gentle yet effective teeth movement throughout your treatment, as compared to braces which may irritate and cause pain.

Lesser Doctor Visits

Unlike braces where you have to visit your doctor every 3-4 weeks, Invisalign frees up your schedule with visits to the clinic only once every 6-8 weeks.

Clearer Timelines

Invisalign treatment allows you to visualize every stage of the treatment, giving you a clearer picture of the treatment duration. Braces can only give you an approximate duration at the beginning of the treatment.

Better Oral Health

Since Invisalign aligners are removable, you can still floss and brush your teeth as per normal whereas braces may make it difficult for you to clean in between the metal brackets which can result in plaque accumulation and poor oral hygiene.

Getting your first Invisalign® clear aligners

It’s the first day of your new smile and time to pick up your first aligners at your doctor’s office. This is a key step in your success. With Invisalign treatment, you're never on your own.

When you pick up your first aligners, your doctor will:

  • Ensure your aligners fit well.

  • Ensure you don’t feel hurting you.

  • Ensure you can wear & take off on your own.

  • Put on attachment (on in your next visit).

  • Answer your questions.

4. Some doctors still take physical impressions using a soft putty. These impressions are then scanned by Invisalign technicians to create the 3D image for use in the ClinCheck® software and manufacturing aligners.
